Google Analytics integration

Connect GA4 and inspect website activity

Choose the GA4 property and event you want to measure, then compare traffic and landing-page activity over consistent periods.

Choose the property

  1. Open Integrations and choose Google Analytics.
  2. Authorize an account that can access the intended GA4 property.
  3. Select the property by name and ID, then choose Save property.

If the account manages several sites, check the property ID and specify the hostname in your task. If no property is listed, resolve provider access first; reconnecting an unrelated account will not reveal it.

Name the event, dates and comparison

For the selected GA4 property, compare the last 28 complete days with
the previous 28. Show acquisition sources, landing pages and recorded
events. Focus on [exact signup event name]. Include the property ID,
dates and the rows behind the largest change.

Replace the bracketed event with the name your site actually records. Afield reads existing reports; it does not install tracking or create past events. Google’s reporting guide explains how dimensions and metrics define a report.

Check what a conversion means

For a form, distinguish a button click from an accepted submission. Record the exact event name and trigger before treating the count as completed enquiries or signups. A signup is not automatically a paying customer.

If visits remain stable while recorded completions fall after a release, inspect the affected form and event collection before commissioning more content. For an authorized measurement test, use a clearly identified test submission and keep it out of customer results. An invalid submission should not be counted as a successful enquiry.

When the numbers do not match

  • Expected event is missing in GA4 too: check collection and the event definition. A period with no measurement remains a gap after collection is fixed.
  • Event exists in GA4 but not in the report: compare property, hostname, dates and dimensions before interpreting the difference.
  • Access fails: reconnect an account with the required property access.

Search Console clicks and GA4 sessions measure different events. Use the report-reconciliation guide and event-definition example when needed. Finish with the report settings, returned rows and one specific follow-up investigation.
