How to edit AI copy: check the claims, then rewrite

A complete before-and-after paragraph with a claim checklist, a usable report-request example and a clear exception to the product promise.

In this article

Start an AI-copy edit by underlining every promise a buyer could reasonably rely on. Style edits can wait until each promise has a supported meaning.

Mark the claims in a weak paragraph

Demo: this fictional reporting product lets a manager assign requests and due dates. The example is not a description of an unverified Afield feature.

Eliminate reporting friction and achieve unprecedented efficiency. Our intelligent platform automatically resolves every bottleneck, bringing all your data into one place so your team never misses a deadline.

The replacement paragraph

Assign each report request to one owner, set its due date and see which requests still need a response. For example, give the April renewal report to Priya with a Thursday deadline. If the billing export is missing, record that dependency beside the request so the manager can follow up with the person who supplies it.

The request list shows who is responsible and what is waiting. It does not produce a missing export or decide whether an incomplete report is safe to send.

The concrete example could appear immediately below the paragraph:

RequestOwnerDueCurrent stateNext action
April renewal reportPriyaThursdayWaiting for billing exportSam supplies the export; Priya checks the reporting period before preparing the report.

Check the edited copy against the screen and the brief

  1. Find support for each product verb: assign, set, see and record. If a control does not exist, change the sentence.
  2. Read the paragraph without the adjectives. A reader should still understand the action and benefit.
  3. Check the exception. The missing export still has an owner; “AI handles it” has not replaced the actual work.
  4. Delete a second paragraph if it merely repeats that ownership improves productivity. Use the space for a relevant failure case or stop.

For a result claim such as hours saved, use a recorded before-and-after baseline. If a screenshot supports a control, follow the screenshot checklist and preserve the original capture.
