Choose Apollo when the recurring job centers on prospect records, contact discovery and an established outbound process. Afield fits assignments that move from investigating an account into a brief, an email or other marketing work. Both products can support research; the useful distinction is how that work is stored, reviewed and reused.
Product details were checked against official documentation on 10 October 2026. Northline Packaging and its outreach brief are fictional examples.
Compare the work you actually need
| Job | Apollo’s documented workflow | Afield’s workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Find companies and people | People and Companies searches use filters or Apollo’s natural-language AI assistant; results can become saved contacts or accounts. | Research starts with your offer, geography and exclusions, then continues into relevant companies and contacts. |
| Investigate account fit | AI Research accepts templates or custom prompts and saves output to research fields on records. | Ask a company question in the conversation, follow supporting sources and retain the resulting brief with the task. |
| Use research in outreach | Research fields can inform messaging, sequences and automated workflows. | Continue from the selected company into a complete editable draft; keep its next send action distinct. |
Apollo documents its search filters and AI Research fields and reuse. AI Research adds account questions and reusable findings to those records. Some capabilities depend on the plan and permissions you use.
One complete account brief
A component supplier wants to approach Northline Packaging, a packaging-machine builder. The account fits the product category, but the supplier still needs to find who handles qualification.
| Decision | Completed demo record |
|---|---|
| Company fit | Packaging-machine production may use machined components. Keep for research; outsourced purchasing is unconfirmed. |
| Question to ask | Who qualifies suppliers for small repeat batches of aluminium and stainless-steel components? |
| Relevant role | Procurement or supplier quality is a role hypothesis. A recruiting mailbox does not answer this question. |
| Contact status | No suitable named person or email verified. Draft ready for review; sending blocked until a route is selected. |
| Evidence still needed | The real equipment page, current role evidence and the source or dated verification status of the selected address. |
Demo subject: Component-supplier qualification at Northline
Hello Northline team,
Your packaging-machine range looks relevant to the aluminium and stainless-steel components we make in small repeat batches.
Who handles qualification of new component suppliers? If your team evaluates outside suppliers, I can send a short capability sheet with materials, inspection methods and sample-part requirements.
Thanks,
Alex

The account is relevant, but no usable contact has been established. The message can be ready while the contact search continues.
When to keep one, or both
For an outbound team already using Apollo, its saved research fields can carry account findings into the messaging process. Stay there when contact coverage and sequence operations are the main job. Afield is useful when the next assignment may be a company investigation, a complete article or a weekly plan. Its company workflow keeps the account research available for the draft.
If you use both, keep the contact and sending record in Apollo and carry the chosen account evidence into the Afield assignment. This gives each tool a defined output without rebuilding the same prospect list.
For missing contacts, use the role and contact-gap guide.
